Dr. Katie Lenger (she/her)

I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in couples therapy and relationship health. I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and completed advanced training at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, including a predoctoral internship in Adult Psychopathology and a clinical postdoctoral fellowship in Trauma Recovery.

My approach to couples therapy is collaborative and evidence-based, focused on helping partners strengthen emotional connection, improve communication, and build practical skills that support long-term well-being. I draw on evidence-based practices including Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) and Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy (CBCT), as well as mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies that promote openness and flexibility within relationships. Prevention is a central part of my work, emphasizing the importance of developing the skills to maintain a healthy, supportive partnership before problems become entrenched. My goal is to help couples not only reduce conflict but also deepen mutual understanding and create the conditions for a thriving relationship.

In addition to my work with couples, I provide individual therapy for concerns that often affect relationships, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma and stressor-related conditions, and reproductive mood disorders such as perinatal depression.

My clinical work is informed by a robust background in relationship science, with over 30 peer-reviewed publications focused on promoting relationship health. In addition to my clinical practice, I hold an academic appointment with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I contribute to ongoing relationship health science research and initiatives.

I believe therapy is an investment in the well-being of both yourself and your relationship. I strive to create a space that is collaborative and practical. If you’re interested in learning more or seeing if we might be a good fit, I welcome you to reach out for a brief consultation.
