  • Want to jump-start progress in their relationship

  • Have limited time due to work, travel, or distance

  • Are navigating high-stakes decisions or major life transitions

  • Need focused support after a crisis such as infidelity or betrayal

  • Prefer an alternative to weekly therapy in a condensed format

  • Feel stuck or plateaued in ongoing couples therapy and need a breakthrough

Why Choose a Couple Therapy Intensive?

What is a Couple Therapy Intensive?

A Couples Therapy Intensive is a focused, immersive therapy experience designed to help partners make meaningful progress in days rather than months. Instead of weekly 50-minute sessions, an intensive offers concentrated time together to address core challenges, strengthen connection, and build lasting skills for navigating conflict.

Intensives combine the structure of evidence-based couples therapy with the depth and continuity of extended sessions. This format allows couples to step away from daily distractions, engage deeply in the process, and create the kind of momentum that’s often difficult to achieve in shorter, weekly meetings.

Each intensive is personalized based on your relationship’s needs and goals, offering both immediate insight and practical strategies for continued growth after the program ends.

  • A Couples Therapy Intensive may be a good fit if you and your partner want to make meaningful progress in a concentrated period of time. It can be especially helpful if you’ve felt stuck in recurring patterns, are navigating a significant stressor or transition, or have limited time for weekly sessions due to schedules, distance, or travel.

Intensives are also well-suited for couples seeking focused support after a crisis, such as infidelity or a breach of trust, or for those who have plateaued in ongoing therapy and want to regain momentum. Some partners choose an intensive as a starting point, while others use it to deepen or accelerate work they’ve already begun.

If you’re unsure whether an intensive is right for your relationship, we’re happy to discuss your goals and help you determine the best next step.

  • All of our intensives are based on Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), an evidence-based approach developed through decades of research on what helps relationships thrive. IBCT helps couples recognize and change unhelpful patterns while fostering greater understanding and acceptance of each other.

    This approach focuses on:

    • Identifying the underlying themes beneath recurring conflict, rather than just addressing surface disagreements

    • Strengthening emotional connection and reducing reactive arguments

    • Helping partners balance change and acceptance—understanding what can shift and what requires a new perspective

Unlike traditional approaches that focus mainly on resolving conflict, IBCT supports couples in developing deeper emotional responsiveness so both partners feel heard, supported, and understood. The goal is not just to solve problems, but to enhance connection and flexibility in how partners relate to one another.

  • Couples Therapy Intensives are offered in two formats, designed to meet different goals and levels of depth. Each process includes pre-intensive questionnaires, individualized case preparation, and a personalized follow-up plan to help you continue progress after the intensive ends.

The Mini-Intensive ($1,800) is a focused option for couples who want to jump-start progress, build specific skills, or work through a particular challenge. It includes two individual 50-minute interviews and a four-hour joint session. Many couples find this format especially useful when time is limited or when they’re seeking a concentrated boost in communication or connection.

The Standard Intensive offers a more immersive experience for couples wanting deeper work on patterns that have felt stuck or difficult to change. It begins with two individual 50-minute interviews, followed by twelve hours of joint sessions, typically spread across two to three days. This format is ideal for couples with scheduling constraints who want to make significant progress over a condensed period and then meet less frequently to refine and maintain gains.

Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) helps couples recognize and change unhelpful patterns while also fostering greater understanding and acceptance of each other. It focuses on:

    • Identifying the root of recurring conflicts instead of just surface disagreements

    • Improving emotional connection and reducing reactive arguments

    • Helping couples balance change and acceptance—recognizing what can shift and what requires a new perspective

Unlike traditional approaches that focus primarily on conflict resolution, IBCT also helps partners develop deeper emotional responsiveness, so they feel heard, supported, and understood in their relationship.

Both formats are grounded in Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) and provide structured, evidence-based guidance within a supportive, collaborative environment. The Mini-Intensive is designed for focus and momentum; the Standard Intensive allows for more time, depth, and integration.

Each process includes pre-intensive questionnaires, individualized case preparation, and a personalized follow-up plan to help you continue progress after the intensive ends.

The convenience of remote sessions can help couples engage in therapy more consistently and reduce barriers such as travel time or scheduling conflicts.

If you’re curious about the benefits of teletherapy and how to maximize its effectiveness, check out this blog post that delves into these topics.

  • The Relationship Health Collective operates as an out-of-network provider, which means insurance is not billed directly. However, if your plan includes out-of-network (OON) benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement for therapy sessions.

To simplify this process, clients receive free access to Reimbursify, a secure, user-friendly app that assists with submitting reimbursement claims to insurance providers. After each session, a superbill is provided through the client portal and can be uploaded directly in the app. If eligible, your insurance company reimburses you directly—at no cost to you.

Not sure if you have OON benefits? You can:

    • Use Reimbursify’s benefits lookup tool

    • Or call your insurance provider and ask:

“Do I have out-of-network coverage for mental health services with a licensed therapist? What percentage is reimbursed, and what is my deductible?”

For additional questions or support with reimbursement, please reach out for assistance.

  • Evening and weekend availability are available for couple therapy intensives.

  • No, all sessions are offered via secure, video-based therapy. This format allows for flexibility, privacy, and access to care nationwide.

  • Yes. Because sessions are held via teletherapy, partners can join from separate locations if needed, as long as both partners are located in a PSYPACT state or a state where the provider is authorized to practice. That said, we strongly recommend attending sessions from the same physical space whenever possible. Being in the same room can help with connection, communication, and the overall flow of the session.

  • The Relationship Health Collective provides inclusive, affirming care for couples of all identities, orientations, and relationship structures.

  • It’s common for one partner to feel hesitant about beginning couples therapy. We take time to understand each person’s perspective and move at a pace that feels comfortable for both partners. Our Relationship Checkup is often a helpful first step — a focused, two-session program that helps you identify strengths and growth areas in your relationship. Research shows that this brief intervention alone can foster meaningful improvements in relationship health, and many partners choose to continue with additional sessions after seeing how helpful the process can be.
