Relationship Checkup

Just like we care for our physical health with regular checkups, our relationships benefit from intentional maintenance and proactive support. A Relationship Checkup helps couples stay connected, deepen emotional intimacy, and strengthen communication before patterns become problems.

This service is ideal for couples who want to nurture what’s already working, prepare for future transitions, or simply invest in long-term relational health. These sessions offer practical tools and insight to help your relationship thrive now and in the future.

Who Would Benefit From These Services?

What is the Relationship Checkup

  • The Relationship Checkup is a brief, structured approach designed to help couples strengthen their connection, understand what’s working well, and address small challenges before they grow. Much like an annual physical or dental checkup, it offers a chance to assess your relationship’s health and make intentional adjustments that support long-term wellbeing.

This approach has been shown to increase relationship satisfaction, intimacy, and overall resilience. Whether you’re hoping to deepen an already strong partnership or get back on track after a period of stress, the Relationship Checkup provides a practical, evidence-based way to invest in your connection.

    • We’re in a strong relationship and want to invest in continued growth and connection

    • We believe in prevention and want to address small issues before they become bigger challenges

    • We’re navigating a transition—like parenting, marriage, or relocation—and want to stay aligned

    • We value intentional care and want tools to help our relationship flourish long term

    • We’re looking for structured, evidence-based support that honors both our strengths and goals

    • We’re not sure about couple therapy and a breif intervention feels more doable.

  • The Relationship Checkup is a structured, evidence-based process designed to help partners gain insight, strengthen communication, and reinforce connection. It typically includes two 75-minute meetings and a personalized feedback report.

    Assessment & Feedback
We begin with a structured assessment to explore strengths and areas of growth, covering topics like communication, conflict resolution, emotional connection, and intimacy. At the second session, the Feedback session, you’ll receive a comprehensive feedback report and guidance based on your specific goals.

    Skill Building
Based on your needs, we’ll focus on targeted skills and exercises to improve communication, increase closeness, and support long-term relationship health. Sessions are practical, collaborative, and strength-based.

  • The Relationship Checkup includes two sessions. Many couples choose to schedule booster sessions, spaced weeks or months apart, to maintain progress and continue strengthening their connection.

FAQs

  • Yes. Research consistently shows that structured, short-term interventions can lead to significant improvements in relationship satisfaction, communication, and emotional closeness, with benefits lasting up to two years. These approaches are most effective when used proactively, before negative patterns become entrenched, and can serve as a meaningful reset or foundation for ongoing growth.

  • The Relationship Checkup costs $800 and includes two 75-minute meetings and a personalized feedback report highlighting your strengths, opportunities for growth, and practical recommendations for continued connection.

  • We are out-of-network (OON) with insurance, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. However, if your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement for therapy sessions.

To make this easier, we offer free access to Reimbursify, a secure, user-friendly app that helps you submit reimbursement claims to your insurance provider. On the first day of each month, you'll receive a superbill through your client portal, which you can upload in the app. If eligible, your insurance will reimburse you directly at no cost to you.

Not sure if you have OON benefits? You can:

    • Use Reimbursify’s benefits lookup tool

    • Or call your insurance provider and ask: “Do I have out-of-network coverage for mental health services with a licensed therapist? What percentage is reimbursed, and what is my deductible?”

Still have questions? We’re happy to help walk you through it.

  • Yes. Because sessions are held via teletherapy, partners can join from separate locations if needed, as long as you both are located in a PSYPACT state. We strongly recommend attending sessions from the same physical space whenever possible. Being in the same room can help with connection, communication, and the overall flow of the session.

  • The Relationship Checkup is generally offered on weekdays. Because it is a brief, time-limited service, limited evening and weekend options may be available upon request.

  • Yes! Many couples choose to continue with booster sessions after the Relationship Checkup to build on progress, refresh skills, or check in on their relationship over time. These meetings are typically 50 minutes in length and scheduled at a frequency that makes sense for your goals.

  • No, we provide teletherapy only. All sessions are conducted via HIPAA-compliant audio/visual telehealth.

  • It’s not uncommon for partners to enter therapy with different levels of motivation or readiness. The Relationship Checkup can be an approachable first step to explore your relationship dynamics, identify strengths, and begin meaningful conversations without the pressure of committing to ongoing therapy.

  • Yes. The Relationship Checkup is inclusive and affirming for couples of all identities, orientations, and relationship structures. The goal is to help every partnership strengthen connection and communication in a way that reflects their unique values and needs.

  • You can begin by booking a free 15-minute consultation. This gives us a chance to talk briefly about your goals and see if the Relationship Checkup would be a good fit.
