Questions

Frequently asked questions.

What is an intensive and how is it different from weekly therapy?

A couples intensive concentrates the work of therapy into one or two dedicated days rather than spreading it across weekly 50-minute sessions. The extended format allows for deeper focus and continuity that's harder to achieve in shorter meetings.

What approaches do you use?

All intensives draw on evidence-based approaches including Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) and Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy (CBCT). IBCT combines acceptance and change strategies to help couples understand the deeper patterns driving their conflicts. CBCT focuses on identifying and shifting the thoughts, behaviors, and communication patterns that maintain distress. Both are among the most rigorously researched approaches in the field.

Do sessions take place in person or virtually?

Sessions are available virtually or in person. Dr. Lenger is based in North Carolina and sees couples in person locally, with virtual options available for those outside the area.

Do you take insurance?

Couples intensives at Relationship Health Collective are structured as consultation services rather than clinical therapy. As a result, they are not billable to insurance. The investment covers your sessions, written feedback report, and all preparation and follow-up.

Is this right for us if we're not in crisis?

Absolutely. Most couples who choose an intensive are not in crisis. They're motivated and want to get ahead of patterns before they become bigger problems, or they're navigating a specific transition and want focused support.

Do you work with LGBTQIA+ couples or non-traditional relationships?

Yes. Relationship Health Collective provides inclusive, affirming care for couples of all identities, orientations, and relationship structures.

How soon can we get started?

Reach out to discuss availability. Evening and weekend scheduling is available to accommodate most couples.
